Inherited House: Accidental Landlord Sells Vacant & Damaged Rental
Here’s another accidental landlord from Texas we were able to help. He inherited this house in Bellefontaine Neighbors, in the far northeast of St. Louis. Fun fact – Bellefontaine is home to Fort Belle Fontaine Park: The first United States military installation west of the Mississippi River, which was established in 1805. It’s 305 acres with a great view of the river, just west of where the Missouri and Mississippi rivers meet.
Overall, the house was in decent condition, but there was also a fair amount of damage, including destroying a brand new oven/stove, a stolen air conditioner, and stolen copper plumbing. He was considering selling it, but was also open to keeping it and placing new (hopefully better) tenants.
Ultimately we were able to make a cash offer that was good enough for him to avoid the headache of continuing to deal with the distant property. He closed his side of the house sale in Texas while we closed here in Missouri. The house was then fixed up and ready for it’s new tenants.
